personality
SEXUALITY: Heterosexual
VISION: In her younger years, Darcy might've been inclined toward experimentation, but she's past those days in her life. Darcy values very little about herself, but she knows that she's sexy and she knows that she's good in bed. Therefore, she capitalizes on it. For a short while, it seemed like Darcy had outgrown her Mean Girl days, but since the divorce, she's regressed a little in that sense, so she's dominant and demanding in bed. She'll tell you what she wants and if she likes it, you'll know it. Darcy's loud. Darcy's very...loud. Some things never change. She's absolutely not looking for love, at this point in her life, but if it sneaks up on her, she's more likely to end up fucking it up than making it work, see: Ethan Ainsley.
Darcy is the kind of woman who can take charge of a situation coolly, calmly, and without looking the least bit frazzled. She is very organized most of the time and she's a good multi-tasker. Darcy is very in-tune with personalities of others and can be manipulative, almost to a fault. In short, Darcy is the perfect person for a leadership position of any kind, but she can also slip into the personification of the word 'frienemy.'

While Darcy is mostly a self-centered and self-righteous woman, she is trying to change; the process was slow going for a while and she'd been picking up momentum on this personal challenge until she lost herself in her own narcissism and cheated on her husband. Old habits die hard. Since the divorce, she's started to regress a little, trying to cling to her youth and a time when she was happy and confident that her life would end up perfect if she just kept playing her cards right.

Darcy has tries very hard to be a good mother to her five-year-old twin boys, which makes her check herself often. Slowly, she is learning that, sometimes, superficial and shallow things are not as important as once they seemed. But, she's only recently started working on this again, and it will take a lot more effort than she's put forth as of yet to achieve her goal. For now, Darcy is still somewhat shallow, very strong-willed, emotional, stubborn, and can, once in a while, be over-dramatic. She tends only to care about things depending on how they affect her or her children directly or, sometimes even, indirectly.

She's become a good and loyal friend, although she's very competitive, and she's the type to constantly try to one-up a person to make herself feel better, even if it means bending the truth to do so. What's best for her always comes first and she would be the first person to step on you if you got in her way, unless she considers you her best friends.

But deep down, Darcy really is a loving person and has the very same kernels of self-doubt and discomfort in her own skin that everyone has...she's just much better at hiding it than most people; so well, in fact, that sometimes...Darcy doesn't even realize it's there.

Weaknesses:
  • Self-Centered - Darcy's biggest downfall is that she sometimes feels like the world revolves around her...or if it doesn't, it should. This can alienate the people around her, even the ones with the best intentions for her in mind.
  • Family - Darcy used to be very close with her mother, in particular, but they have since drifted apart and become estranged. She misses her family very much, especially when she's living so far away, but she's too proud to apologize.
  • Men - Darcy is the kind of woman who expects attention from men. If she doesn't get it, she assumes that they're homosexual and even then, that they're clearly out of the fashion loop, if nothing else. She relishes in every ounce of attention and affection she gets from men; it cost her her engagement to Dex and, later her marriage to Ethan.
  • Finances - If there is one thing Darcy absolutely and completely, without a doubt, totally sucks at...it's restraining herself from spending money on frivolous things. Luckily for her, back in Manhattan, she had a great job that paid some serious dough, but since she's moved to London, she's been depleting her savings without much thought, until just before the twins were born when she realized she ought to save up for things she'll need for the babies when they came. She's gotten a little better about it over the past five years, but admittedly, only with Ethan's help.
  • Hypocrisy - Darcy tends to think that she can do no wrong and if others are doing the exact same thing but she doesn't like it, then they're awful people. A prime example of this is how she cut Dexter and Rachel out of her life for years — even now, their contact is sparse — after they had an affair behind her back...meanwhile, for a large portion of the exact same summer during which this affair was taking place, only months before Dexter and Darcy's wedding date, Darcy was having an affair with one of Dexter's groomsmen. In fact, he's the biological father of her children. It wasn't okay with her that Rachel and Dex had an affair, but it was perfectly acceptable that she did.
Strengths:
  • Friends - Darcy has a very easy go of making friends. Keeping them, for the most part, is also easy because she tends to choose people who worship and idolize her. The type of company that Darcy mostly keeps would rather keep being beaten down by her than lose her all together.
  • Family - At the end of the day, regardless of their differences and the way that they sometimes butt heads, Darcy knows that she can always turn to them when she needs them, even if it doesn't seem that way right now, what with the rift between she and her mother.
  • Independence - When it comes to doing things her way, Darcy is very much independent. If she is restless in a job, she'll get a new one; if she's unhappy in a location, she'll move to a new city without thinking twice, especially since money is no obstacle. If she's unhappy with her friends, she dumps them and makes new ones.
  • Doesn't Take Bullshit From Anyone - Darcy will be the first to tell it like it is. For example, if she thinks that someone is being an asshole, she's not shy about telling them so, however diplomatically she will try to make it sound if the setting calls for it. She doesn't take neglect or betrayal sitting down; she refuses to ever speak to Rachel White — her former best friend of twenty plus years — or Dexter Thaler — her ex-fiance, with whom she had been in a relationship for seven years — ever again, because she found out they were having an affair behind her back while Rachel was supposed to be helping Darcy plan the wedding. Never mind the fact that she, too, was having an affair with one of the groomsmen, Darcy didn't appreciate being deceived by people she thought were supposed to be the most important in her life outside family and she put her foot down firmly on it.
special powers/abilities
STRENGTHS: Broken down in detail in personality section; friends, family, independence, no bullshit
WEAKNESSES: Broken down in detail in personality section; self-centered, family, men, friends, hypocrisy
Darcy doesn't actually have any powers, but she does have skills. Darcy could probably give just about anyone under the sun a life-changing makeover if they were to let her. She's very in tune with what's fashionable and what makes a person look their best. She's very personable and outgoing; her job in public relations requires her to be, but she chose the job to suit herself, so she's always been that way.

Darcy knows how to read people — although sometimes it's difficult to see the truth when someone is very close to you; it's easier to miss when you have a pre-determined notion about a person — and she's not shy at all. It's easy for Darcy to make friends. She is also of average intelligence, so to say the least, she's not your average dumb rich girl. In addition, Darcy is a master manipulator and a skilled business woman. She's good at planning events, keeping things organized, and is a very detail-oriented individual.
history
Darcy Rhone was born and raised in Indianapolis (okay, Naperville), Indiana, but she always knew she was destined for bigger and better things. After graduating from Indiana University in Bloomington with a disappointing 2.9 GPA and for lack of a plan or money, Darcy moved to New York City to live with her best (and life-long) friend Rachel for a while to give herself time to figure out what she wanted to do with her life moving forward. Borrowing money from her parents until she could get on her feet, Darcy soon found some roommates with whom she could split the rent of a partitioned studio apartment and she picked up a bartending position at Monkey Bar.

Not long after doing so, Darcy met a businessman one night while working there who offered her a job. After an easy — read: rigged — interview, Darcy landed a job in PR, which was perfect for her. The money was amazing, for one thing. But mostly, she enjoyed being in a position that allowed her to be important, beautiful, and part of the elite in the Manhattan scene. Darcy got to plan parties, promote fashion trends, and had the fringe benefits of free swag and more gorgeous men to date than she could keep count.

Six months later, Rachel introduced her to a law school friend, Dexter Thaler. A month after meeting him, with Rachel's blessing, he finally called and Darcy started dating him. Six years later, Dexter proposed. With Rachel as the maid of honor, Darcy was ready to plan the perfect wedding to settle down with the perfect guy. For the summer, Darcy, Dexter, Rachel, Dexter's groomsman, Marcus — whom Rachel was casually dating — Rachel's friend, Hilary, and Darcy's friend, Claire, rented a timeshare in the Hamptons. On a Fourth of July weekend, when Rachel and Dexter had to work the weekend, Darcy hooked up with Marcus. The two didn't talk about it and for a short while, it was swept under the rug. Darcy, too interested in the drama and excitement — never mind the amazing sex — couldn't be satisfied with just that. The two continued to sneak around together.

A week before the wedding, and well after Darcy and Dexter's relationship had clearly started to change and they began to drift apart, Dexter called it off. Darcy was heartbroken. She went to Rachel's apartment soon thereafter to tell her the entire story and to add to it that she had found out that she was pregnant...with Marcus's baby. That was when she found out about the affair. Dexter's watch had caught her eye and she'd found him hiding in Rachel's closet in only his boxer shorts. She vowed that she would never speak to them again and she told them both she hated them before storming out of the apartment and out of their lives.

Shortly after this, Darcy was sucked through a Biblical Seal where she lived for a little over a year in Lawrence, Kansas in the midst of an Apocalypse. During this time, she had her babies but, unfortunately, when she was sent back through the Seal to go home, she wound up being sent back in time to where she'd been before getting brought through, to begin with, meaning she went back to being eight weeks pregnant and lived her life onward from there.

Moving in with Marcus proved to be a mistake; their relationship was strained at best and eventually, mostly because Marcus didn't want Darcy to keep the baby and she refused to do anything but, he broke up with her, leaving Darcy not only mainly homeless but alone and doubly heartbroken. She tried moving in with her friend Claire, but they soon, too, started to drift apart. Darcy could no longer go out and drink and party the way she used to, being pregnant and all. Claire moved on. Darcy had nothing left, so she called her friend Ethan — a friend of Rachel's as well — in London and asked if she could come out for a short visit.

Darcy's visit, which was supposed to be a couple of weeks, ended up drawing out. More than two months later, she'd found herself a doctor, even, and was looking for a job after Ethan had told her bluntly that she needed to grow up and change if she was going to be a responsible mother and a good friend. The first appointment with her new OB/GYN revealed that Darcy was eighteen weeks pregnant not with the girl she had hoped for, but with a boy. ...or rather, twin boys. Darcy went to bed that night overwhelmed with the idea of raising twin boys all by herself. After some time, she settled into the idea of it, having met a new man — an Englishman named Geoffrey — and becoming comfortable with him. It didn't work out, however, because the closer she got to her due date and the more time she spent with Ethan, the more she realized...she was in love with Ethan, instead.

On February 14th, 2006, Darcy gave birth to her first son, Conner just before midnight. Ten minutes after midnight on February 15th, Clark followed. Darcy married her best friend Ethan when the twins were old enough to walk and be their ring bearer and she patched things up with Rachel enough to have invited she and Dex to the wedding. They still aren't close, but they're civil. For the next year, Darcy worked on getting back to work in PR, mostly working her way back up the corporate ladder while Ethan penned his next novel. She was growing into her motherhood and wife roles and for a little while, things were nice.

...and then Darcy got bored. Every day felt the same, Ethan didn't romance her anymore; life wasn't exciting enough for Darcy. So she had an affair. Six months into it, she decided that she needed to break it off and, in an effort to salvage their deteriorating marriage, she decided to be honest with Ethan about it and offered for them to go to counseling. Ethan declined and shortly thereafter, filed for divorce. He'd known what Darcy had been trying to tell herself wasn't true: she was never really going to change.

Her boys are five years old now and she's just finished the divorce proceedings about a month ago, even though it's been in the works for just shy of a year. She's wiped out financially having paid so many legal fees and having to take time off work both to mother her children without Ethan around working from home to watch them and for court dates, so when the god came to her, promising her a clean slate and someone to take care of her children while she learned to find herself — her true self — all without having to worry about her financial situation for the time being, it was an offer she really couldn't refuse.
